Dr. Maxwell Smith is an Associate Professor and CIHR Applied Public Health Chair in Ethics and Health Emergencies at Western University, with cross-appointments in the Department of Philosophy, Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Institute for Earth and Space Exploration. He serves as Associate Director of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy and holds affiliations with institutions including the University of Toronto, University of Sydney, and Georgetown University.

His research focuses on public health ethics, particularly infectious disease ethics, health equity, and social justice. He explores ethical reasoning in pandemic preparedness, vaccine mandates, organ donation, and AI applications in healthcare. Notable collaborations include WHO and PHAC working groups.
