Dr. Maximilian Terhalle is Visiting Professor in the Grand Strategy Programme at King's College London's Department of War Studies. A former Senior Adviser to the UK Ministry of Defence (2019-2020), his research bridges strategic studies, world order transitions, and the psychological dimensions of leadership in international security. He holds a Habilitation from University of Potsdam and DPhil from University of Bonn.
Dr. Terhalle's current work includes a book on Germany's post-Merkel strategy commissioned by IISS and analyses of NATO's strategic rationale. His publications include Strategy as Vocation (2023) and The Transition of Global Order (2015) examining US-China rivalry. With teaching experience at Yale, Columbia, Oxford, and Cambridge, he maintains affiliations with the German Defence Department as a Major (reserve) and contributes to international media including RUSI, Foreign Policy, and Financial Times.
