Arun Dawson is a PhD candidate in War Studies at King’s College London’s Freeman Air and Space Institute, researching airpower and British grand strategy during the Cold War. He holds an engineering background from Oxford and flight experience with the University Air Squadron, blending technical and strategic perspectives in defense studies. His work is supported by the Guggenheim Fellowship and has been applied in policy reports for governments and military academies globally.
Education: Engineering degree from the University of Oxford. Professional experience includes internships at NATO’s Defence Investment Division and advisory roles with Oxford Analytica’s political risk program. He is a Visiting Lecturer at the Sri Lankan National Defence College and a Fellow of the Baltic Defence College.
Research focuses on how military technology shapes international relations, particularly in airpower’s role in grand strategy. Notable projects include analyzing British combat air procurement cases from the Suez Crisis to the Cold War, revealing how procurement decisions reflect diplomatic and economic strategies. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary policy challenges, addressing sovereignty vs. alliance dependency and technological risk.
Teaching engagements include instructing RAF officers at the UK Defence Academy and undergraduates at King’s College London. He contributes to initiatives like the Freeman Air and Space Institute, Economic Conflict & Competition Research Group, and the Centre for Grand Strategy, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to defense and economic warfare studies.
