Dr. Max Harwood is a sessional lecturer, unit convenor, and adjunct fellow at Macquarie University's Department of Anthropology. He also serves as a Senior Associate with NSW Premier's Department Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) program. His research focuses on white nationalism, far-right extremism, and ethnographic filmmaking. He has held roles such as MRes co-supervisor and organizes the Macquarie University International Ethnographic Film Festival. His doctoral work examined Turkish and Israeli masculinity, producing a documentary and dissertation. Awards include the Honorary Adjunct Fellow (2021).
Education: PhD in Anthropology (Macquarie University, 2019).
Research Interests: White nationalist phenomenology, digital subcultures of extremism, ethnographic film, and Middle Eastern nationalism.
Teaching: Taught courses on political anthropology, globalization, and ethnography. Guest lectured widely across multiple disciplines.
Projects: Includes 'Digital Threats to Democracy' (2022-2023) and 'From Reed to Ney: Musical Craftsmanship in Turkey' (2024-2025).
