Lise Waldek is a Senior Lecturer in Macquarie University's Department of Security Studies and Criminology, specializing in countering violent extremism (CVE), online radicalization, and behavioural science applications in security. Currently on PhD leave as Honorary Senior Research Fellow.
Research Focus: Examines violent extremism through multidisciplinary lenses including digital ethnography, network analysis, and emotion studies. Key projects map far-right ecosystems, analyze COVID-19 conspiracy narratives, and develop resilience frameworks against online radicalization. Current work investigates emotional dimensions of extremist propaganda.
Projects & Funding: Leads major grants including 'Right-Wing Extremism and COVID-19 in Australia' (NSW Department of Communities, $149K), 'Mass Influence Organisations' (Defence Australia, $1.3M), and 'Mapping Online Right-Wing Extremism' (NSW Government, $198K). Developed counter-terrorism training programs for Bangladesh Police Staff College.
Teaching: Coordinates master's courses 'Choosing Terror: Pathways into Terrorism' and 'Counter Terrorism in Global Context'. Provides expert consultation to Commonwealth Secretariat on CVE strategies.
