Max Costa is a Professor in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Division of Environmental Medicine, focusing on molecular mechanisms of metal carcinogenesis and epigenetic regulation in cancer development.
- Education: PhD from Arizona State University, Postdoctoral Training at University of Arizona Medical School in Radiation Oncology
His research spans epigenetics, chromatin structure, and environmental toxicology, particularly the role of metals in cancer progression. Recent studies investigate cadmium-induced cell migration, hexavalent chromium's immunomodulatory effects, and environmental pollution from fireworks. He explores antioxidant interventions against particulate matter damage.
Publications reveal interdisciplinary work bridging molecular pharmacology, cancer signaling pathways, and environmental epidemiology. Key themes include metal toxicity, non-coding RNA dynamics, and epigenetic modifications in carcinogenesis.
