Maurice Meilleur

Maurice Meilleur is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Iowa State University and an Instructor in Continuing Education at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. His academic journey spans political theory and design, holding a PhD from Indiana University Bloomington and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Maurice’s research integrates typography, generative design, and semiotics. He explores algorithmically-defined formal systems and typographic representation through digital animation using Python and Drawbot. His creative work includes the development of the experimental modular typeface Kast, which has been expanded into various media including paper, photographic, print, and digital artifacts.

He contributes to design criticism through type and book reviews for Typographica and Fonts in Use, and is authoring a book on the principles and history of constructed scripts.
