Hannes Famira

Hannes Famira is an Adjunct Professor at The Cooper Union’s School of Art, specializing in typography and type design. He has taught at institutions including Cooper Union (since 2011), School of Visual Arts (SVA), University of the Arts Philadelphia, and multiple European universities. His career spans over three decades in design studios like Meta Design, House Industries, and his own studio Famirafonts (formerly Kombinat-Typefounders).

Education: Studied graphic and typographic design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague (KABK), Netherlands. Apprenticeships include Studio Dumbar and the Font Bureau.

Research interests focus on typeface design, typographic systems, and the intersection of design education with professional practice. His work emphasizes functional and aesthetic innovation in typography, evident in projects like the Jupette typeface and collaborations with global brands.

Labs/Teams: Founder of Famirafonts, a studio producing commercial and custom typefaces. Active in design communities such as Type@Cooper and Typostammtisch Zurich.
