Maureen Sterling is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Odette School of Business, University of Windsor. She holds the Education Leadership Chair in Business and serves as Assurance of Learning Coordinator. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. from Queen's University (1997), an M.A. from the University of Toronto (1986), and a B.A. in Psychology from Carleton University (1976). Sterling is certified as a CPA (Ontario), CMA (Ontario), and a VALUE Institute scorer (AAC&U). She is actively involved with professional associations such as the American Accounting Association and European Academic Accounting Association.
Her research focuses on accounting ethics, personal values in professional contexts, and qualitative analysis. Notable work includes studies on Jordanian accounting students’ values and ethical attitudes toward earnings management. Sterling has authored or co-authored multiple textbooks, including editions of Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting.
She has received prestigious awards, including the 2017 Educational Leadership Award and 2017 Research Excellence Award from the University of Windsor. Her grants include projects on indigenous law integration in accounting education (2021) and business simulation tools for student engagement (2012). Sterling’s service contributions include editorial board roles for Issues in Accounting Education and Contemporary Accounting Research.
