Maureen Medved is an Associate Professor in the Creative Writing Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC), currently on leave until 2025. She holds an affiliation with the Faculty of Arts and specializes in Fiction and Screenwriting. Her research explores creative writing opportunities in new media, reflecting her commitment to evolving storytelling forms.
Her major works include the novel *The Tracey Fragments*, which was adapted into a film that premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival (2007) and won the Manfred Salzgeber Prize. Her 2018 novel *Black Star* earned the CAA Fred Kerner Book Award. She has also contributed to screenwriting, with her adaptations receiving international acclaim.
Medved has designed courses in writing for new media, reflecting her innovative pedagogical approach. Her awards include the Artistic Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television (Vancouver, 2009) and recognition for her French-language translation work via the Governor General’s Literary Award for Translation (2008, awarded to translator C& L Chabalier).
Current projects include a third novel, a book of creative non-fiction, and film-related works. Her teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary storytelling across mediums like stage, screen, and digital platforms.
