Dean Bakopoulos is an Associate Professor of Cinema and Head of Screenwriting Arts at the University of Iowa. He is a Guggenheim and NEA Fellow in both fiction and creative nonfiction. His creative works include novels such as Please Don’t Come Back from the Moon, My American Unhappiness, and Summerlong, which have garnered acclaim including New York Times Notable Book and NPR's Best Books of the Year honors. He co-created the HBO Max series Made for Love and directed the film adaptation of his first novel, a New York Times Critics’ Pick.
His research interests span creative writing, screenwriting, and narrative adaptation, with a focus on bridging literary fiction and visual storytelling. Bakopoulos is currently developing original TV/film projects and adaptations, including his short story “The Dog” at Film Nation.
