Maureen Mckelvey is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, leading the Unit for Innovation and Entrepreneurship within the Department of Economy and Society. She specializes in innovation management, entrepreneurship, and university-industry interactions, with a focus on knowledge-intensive ecosystems. Her research bridges evolutionary economics and policy analysis, emphasizing societal impact through innovation. She directs the U-GOT KIES centre, fostering global collaborations in innovation governance and policy.
Her academic leadership includes roles such as Vice-Dean at the School of Business, Economics and Law, and Director of a VINNOVA Center of Excellence. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and 16 books, including works on biotechnology and knowledge ecosystems. Her Schumpeter Prize-winning book Evolutionary Innovations: The Business of Biotechnology highlights her early contributions to radical innovation theory.
Mckelvey’s mentoring philosophy emphasizes scientific curiosity and has produced successful PhD students in academia, government, and industry. Her recent work explores governance readiness in fields like regenerative medicine and societal challenges in innovation policy. She also designs impactful MSc programs in innovation and entrepreneurship, graduating over 100 students annually.
