Mattie Greathouse serves as an Instructor of Flute in the Department of Music at Centre College, where she teaches applied flute and mentors students, while also directing the Bluegrass Arts Collective to expand music access for youth in Jessamine County.
Her educational background includes undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan under Detroit Symphony Orchestra piccoloist Clemente Barone, with masterclasses from Leone Buyse, Nina Perlove, Robert Dick, and Leela Breithaupt. She is currently pursuing graduate studies at the University of Kentucky College of Fine Arts with Dr. Julie Hobbs, holding principal flutist positions in both the UK Symphony Orchestra and UK Opera Theater Orchestra.
Her professional focus centers on flute performance mastery and innovative music education, emphasizing classical repertoire development and community-based arts initiatives. She actively bridges academic training with real-world engagement through outreach programs that make music accessible to underserved populations, particularly through school partnerships and early childhood music instruction.
Mattie's competitive achievements highlight her exceptional artistry:
- First annual East Kentucky Flute Competition winner (2019)
- National Flute Association Performer's Competition winner (2014), performing at the Chicago convention
As an educator, her students consistently achieve recognition in the Governor's Scholarship for the Arts. She extends her mentorship through summer band camp coaching, preschool music instruction, and volunteering in local schools to promote music awareness, demonstrating deep commitment to cultivating the next generation of musicians across all age groups.
