Dr. Matthew Sinclair is a Lecturer in the School of Education at Curtin University, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Education Policy and as ECR Editor Intern for the Australian Education Researcher. His research focuses on education policy, school funding equity, globalization, and social justice. He coordinates units in education studies and professional teaching practice, and has held HDR representation roles at RMIT University (2018–2022). Previously a primary school teacher in Victoria, his career transitioned to academia after observing systemic inequities in education policy and funding.
Dr. Sinclair holds a PhD from RMIT University (2022) and is author of an upcoming book Equity and Influence in the Funding of Schools (2025, Bloomsbury). His work critiques neoliberal policy shifts and advocates for equitable funding frameworks. He leads Curtin’s Sociology of Education Research Cluster and has presented at major conferences like AARE and AERA. His media engagements include ABC Radio, The Conversation, and RTR FM, addressing school funding reforms and public education challenges.
Recent research projects include Building Creative Responses to Climate Change for Schools (RMIT-funded) and Teacher Workforce Sustainability Challenges (Curtin-funded). He has submitted policy analysis to the Productivity Commission’s ECEC inquiry and co-organized symposia on critical policy junctures in public schooling. Sinclair’s work bridges academic research with public advocacy, emphasizing policy’s impact on educational equity.
