Professor Matthew Murray is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge, leading the Murray Group within the Division of Cellular and Molecular Pathology. He concurrently serves as an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
His research centers on childhood solid tumours, with groundbreaking work on germ cell tumours (GCTs) establishing microRNA clusters miR-371~373 and miR-302/367 as universal biomarkers for malignant GCTs. Current projects investigate clonal dynamics of tumour evolution, tumour microenvironment interactions through extracellular vesicles, therapeutic targeting of microRNA pathways including the LIN28/let-7 axis, and clinical translation of serum microRNA assays for diagnosis and relapse monitoring in international trials.
Professor Murray mentors PhD student Zachary Scurlock and visiting student Jessica Balls. His laboratory, embedded within the Department of Pathology on Tennis Court Road, actively contributes to prospective clinical trials for biomarker validation in germ cell tumours and neuroblastoma.
