Matthew McCabe

Matthew McCabe is an Associate Professor of Audio Technology at the Schwob School of Music, Columbus State University, where he teaches audio engineering, music technology, and composition courses while holding the Sam and Jacquie Rawls Distinguished Professorship of Music—a rotating endowed chair.

Education:

• Bachelor of Arts in Music, University of Richmond, 2001
• Master of Music in Composition, Bowling Green State University, 2005
• Ph.D. in Music Composition with cognate studies in Neuroscience, University of Florida, 2010

Research Interests: His work centers on networked audio technologies (including AES67 implementation), electroacoustic music, and the intersection of music cognition with neuromusicology. He actively explores Irish language influences on traditional music and develops audio engineering solutions for live performance and recording contexts.

Advising and Professional Activities: Dr. McCabe advises independent study students, directed CSU's Popular Music Ensemble (2010-2018, 2023-present), and serves as Technical Director for the Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festival. He maintains active memberships in the Society of Composers, Inc., Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and Audio Engineering Society.

Labs and Collaborations: He maintains technical partnerships with The Loft recording venue, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, and Springer Opera House in Columbus, GA, facilitating student internships and real-world audio engineering projects while collaborating with eighth blackbird and local development groups.
