Matthew J. Lindsay

Matthew J. Lindsay is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore's John and Frances Angelos Law Center. His expertise spans American Legal History, Immigration Law, and Constitutional Law, with a focus on the intersection of foreignness, race, and regulatory authority.

Lindsay’s research examines the historical evolution of the U.S. constitutional order from the Civil War to the New Deal, particularly regarding immigration regulation and economic liberty constraints. His current book project, The Constitution of Foreignness: Immigration, Free Labor, and Race in the United States, 1776–1924 (Cambridge University Press), investigates early immigration law transformations.
