Matthew Hayek is an Associate Professor at New York University in the Department of Environmental Studies and affiliated faculty with the NYU Center for Data Science and the NYU Wild Animal Welfare Program. His research focuses on the environmental impacts of food systems, particularly how food production contributes to climate change. He uses empirical modeling and geospatial data to generate data-driven insights for reducing and reversing the environmental impacts of food systems. He also coordinates interdisciplinary research projects that bridge science and policy to tackle climate change through food systems. He received his PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from Harvard and was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Law School.
