معرفی
Matthew Girgenti, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine with a secondary appointment in Neuroscience. He directs the Girgenti Lab, leveraging genomic approaches to study stress-related disorders. Affiliated with the Wu Tsai Institute and the VA National PTSD Brain Bank (where he serves as Director), his research integrates molecular biology and bioinformatics to investigate PTSD, depression, and alcohol use disorder using postmortem human brain tissue.
Dr. Girgenti holds a BS in Molecular Biology from Fairfield University (2002) and a PhD in Molecular Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut (2015). His postdoctoral training at Yale focused on rapid antidepressant mechanisms and postmortem brain genomics.
His research employs single-cell transcriptomics, epigenomics, and computational methods to identify cellular subpopulations and molecular pathways in neuropsychiatric disorders. Current projects include:
- Cell type-specific genomic atlas of PTSD/MDD
- Functional validation of PTSD risk genes via iPSCs
- Molecular pathology of suicide
- Animal models of chronic stress
Publications emphasize genomics, neurobiology, and computational psychiatry, with recent work in Nature, Science, and Cell exploring PTSD transcriptomics, AI-based phenotyping, and multi-omic integration.
Honors include:
- Rafaelsen Young Investigators Award (2023)
- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Young Investigator Award (2021)
- ACNP Travel Award (2021)
He leads the Girgenti Lab, which collaborates with the VA National PTSD Brain Bank to advance molecular understanding of trauma-related disorders. No teaching or grant details are provided in source texts.
