Matthew Fuchter is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and Sydney Bailey Fellow in Chemistry at St Peter’s College. He holds a visiting professorship at Imperial College London. His research focuses on functional molecules, materials, and medicines with applications in optoelectronics, drug discovery, and photopharmacology. He leads the Fuchter Group, which develops photoswitchable molecules, chiral materials, and therapies targeting transcriptional dysregulation in diseases.
- Education: PhD (2006) from Imperial College London under Prof. A. G. M. Barrett, followed by postdoctoral work at CSIRO Australia.
- Career: RCUK Academic Fellow (School of Pharmacy, University of London), Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader at Imperial College London (2008–2018), and current position since 2024.
His translational research includes co-inventing drugs Samuraciclib and APL-4098 (in clinical trials) and founding NK:IO Ltd, an immune-oncology company. Awards span RSC prizes and the Blavatnik Award.
