Matthew Cole is an Assistant Professor of Technology, Work and Employment at the University of Sussex and an Associate Fellow of the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre (Digit). His research focuses on the political economy of technology and work, particularly artificial intelligence, platform capitalism, and labour market transformations. Previously, he held roles at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), including Postdoctoral Researcher (2020–2022) and Research Associate (2022–2023), where he contributed to the Fairwork initiative analyzing global platform labour standards. He earned his PhD from the University of Leeds (2019) with a thesis on low-waged hospitality work, examining service production and labour conflicts.
