Matthew Barlow is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology at the Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University. He specializes in Performance in Extreme Environments, with a focus on physiological responses to hypoxia and apnoea training adaptations.

- Teaching: Delivers physiology and performance modules across undergraduate and MSc programs
- Leadership: School Local Research Ethics Coordinator; leads the inferential Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry (iDXA) unit
His work includes collaborations with the British Military on high-altitude expeditions like the RAF Mountaineering Association Himalayan Venture 18 (2019) and the British Services Dhaulaghiri Medical Research Expedition (2016). He supervises PhD students and has contributed to body composition measurement standards in athletes.
