Matteo Mandelli is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE) and the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for the Evaluation of Public Policies (LIEPP) at Sciences Po, Paris. He is conducting a 22-month research project titled "Democracy and Ecological Transformations," funded by the Open Society Hub for the Politics of the Anthropocene (OHPA) and hosted at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. He is also affiliated with the School of Public Affairs (EAP) at Sciences Po, where he co-teaches a master's-level seminar.
His research focuses on the intersection of environmental and social policy, particularly the role of the welfare state in ecological transitions. Key areas include eco-social policies, the European Green Deal, just transition frameworks, and socio-environmental conflicts within the European Union. He examines how distributive politics shape policy responses to climate change and advocates for equitable green transformations.
His recent publications explore the conceptualization and implementation of eco-social policies across multilevel governance systems in Europe. The articles reflect a strong thematic focus on integrating welfare and environmental policies, analyzing policy mixes, and advancing theoretical frameworks for a socially just ecological transition. His work bridges political science, public policy, and environmental governance.
