Matt McGillvray is a Part-Time Lecturer in Social Work at Nipissing University's Faculty of Education and Professional Studies. As a Registered Social Worker, he brings interdisciplinary experience from law enforcement, military service, and clinical practice. He holds an MSW from Wilfrid Laurier University and a BA (Honours) in Criminal Justice from Nipissing University.
His practice and research focus on trauma, ADHD, mental health, addiction, and anti-oppressive approaches across micro, mezzo, and macro practice levels. Current research examines trauma-informed design and ADHD management within family systems. Clinically, he works as a Mental Health Clinician in a school board and maintains a private practice specializing in ADHD, first responder wellness, and military trauma.
McGillvray's teaching philosophy emphasizes active, participatory learning and collaborative knowledge construction through shared lived experiences.
