معرفی
Mats Talbäck is an Affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, specializing in epidemiology and statistics within the medical field. His work primarily focuses on cancer epidemiology, register-based research, and survival analysis, with significant contributions to understanding childhood cancer survivorship and occupational health impacts.
Dr. Talbäck received his PhD in Epidemiology from the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet in 2011, with his dissertation titled 'Cancer patient survival in Sweden – theory and application.' He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics with specialization in Statistics from Uppsala University (1992). His professional journey began in 1993 at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Uppsala University Hospital, followed by positions at Statistics Sweden, the National Cancer Registry, and the National Board of Health and Welfare before joining Karolinska Institutet in 2014.
His research spans multiple domains including cancer epidemiology, diabetes research, neuroepidemiology, and occupational health. A significant portion of his recent work involves the SALiCCS (Socioeconomic Consequences in Adult Life after Childhood Cancer in Scandinavia) research program, a Nordic collaboration investigating mental, social, and socioeconomic conditions in childhood cancer survivors. His methodological expertise lies in utilizing Swedish population registers for epidemiological studies, with particular strength in survival analysis and large-scale cohort studies.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on childhood cancer survivorship outcomes, with numerous studies examining educational attainment, employment status, mental health, and family formation among survivors. He also maintains active research in metabolic disorders, liver diseases, and cardiovascular epidemiology, often leveraging the extensive Swedish population registers to conduct large-scale studies with hundreds of thousands of participants.

Dr. Talbäck works within the Cancer Epidemiology and Causal Inference research group led by Maria Feychting at the Unit of Epidemiology. His expertise in statistical analysis of large population datasets has made him a valuable contributor to numerous collaborative research projects across Scandinavia, particularly those utilizing the rich Swedish national health registers for epidemiological research.
