Mark Clements is a Senior Lecturer and Docent in Biostatistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet. He has held academic and government roles in Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. He leads the research group focused on statistical modeling for cancer epidemiology and health economics. Current roles include membership in the Management Group of the Swedish eScience Research Centre and co-leadership of the eMPHasis project. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Auckland (1991), a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Sydney (2001), and a Docent in Biostatistics from Karolinska Institutet (2021).
His research emphasizes survival analysis methods, natural history modeling, and cost-effectiveness analysis. He develops software tools such as the rstpm2 and microsimulation R packages. Current PhD supervision includes Birzhan Akynkozhayev, Xiaoyang Du, and Balram Rai, with prior supervision of Andreas Karlsson and others. He has secured grants from Cancerfonden, the Swedish Research Council, and Prostatacancerförbundet.
Teaching responsibilities include directing the Biostatistics III: Survival Analysis course and developing a new masters course in Survival Analysis with Applications in Medicine. His GitHub repositories include the prostata package for prostate cancer microsimulation modeling.
