Mats Eklund is a Professor at Linköping University's Department of Management and Engineering (IEI), part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He specializes in environmental technology and management, focusing on biogas solutions, industrial symbiosis, and sustainable development. As director of the Biogas Research Centre (BRC), he promotes cross-sector collaboration to advance resource-efficient biogas systems. His work integrates scientific disciplines and industry partnerships, involving over 20 organizations and eight research groups.
Research interests include environmental history, material flows, waste strategies, and urban mining. He collaborates with companies like Stena Metall, Tekniska Verken, and cities to ensure practical impact. Teaching focuses on biofuels, industrial symbiosis, and technical systems at engineering programs. He advises PhD candidates and serves on boards, including Econova, while leading strategic collaborations between Linköping University and industry partners.
Key contributions include advancing Sweden's biogas infrastructure, policy briefs on scaling production, and advocating for science-driven climate policies. His recent publications emphasize biogas's role in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals and addressing fossil-free transport challenges.
