Mathieu Richaud is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Fresno State, part of the College of Science and Mathematics. He holds a B.S. in Geology from Lyon University (2000), an M.S. from Bordeaux University (2001), and a Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University (2006). His research focuses on paleoceanography, coastal geology, and sedimentology, with emphasis on glacial/interglacial cycles, benthic foraminifera ecology, and coastal erosion dynamics. He employs LiDAR and drone technology to study California’s Central Coast and participates in international expeditions like IODP 317 in New Zealand’s Canterbury Basin.
- Education:
- B.S., Geology, Lyon University, France, 2000
- M.S., Geology, Bordeaux University, France, 2001
- Ph.D., Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, 2006
Research interests include:
- Paleoceanographic reconstructions in the eastern equatorial Pacific
- Coastal erosion studies using UAV-LiDAR in Morro Bay
- Sedimentological analysis of the Canterbury Basin
- Foraminifera microhabitat geochemistry in the North Atlantic
Publications span glacial-interglacial mechanisms, carbonate flux dynamics, and encyclopedic contributions on climate change and polar regions. His work integrates field data, sediment core analysis, and numerical modeling to address global biogeochemical cycles and sea-level changes.
He teaches courses such as CSM 10, EES 109, and EES 167, and collaborates with students on coastal geology projects and international marine expeditions.
