Mathew Dowling

Dr Mathew Dowling is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Management at the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Loughborough University (2024–present). Previously, he held roles including Associate Professor at Anglia Ruskin University (2023–2024), Deputy Head of School (Curriculum) at the same institution (2021–2024), and Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching at Plymouth Marjon University (2016–2023). His academic journey includes a BSc and MSc from Loughborough University (2006–2009) and a PhD in Sport Management from the University of Alberta, Canada (2010–2014).

His research focuses on sport policy and governance, including organizational theory, professionalisation in sport management, and comparative methodologies. Key interests include government involvement in sport, Olympic legacies, and institutional work within sport systems. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), reflecting his commitment to teaching excellence.

Recent work explores post-Olympic legacy organizations, polycentric governance in athlete welfare, and comparative studies of national sport policies.
