Mary Szybist

Mary Szybist is the Morgan S. Odell Professor of Humanities in the Department of English at Lewis & Clark College’s College of Arts & Sciences. She specializes in poetry writing with research interests in spiritual inquiry, religious studies, and literary form experimentation. Her work bridges theological exploration and personal narrative, often reimagining biblical themes through modern perspectives.

Education: BA (1992) University of Virginia; MFA (1996) University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Current teaching includes ENG 401-01: Poetry 3 in Spring 2025. Office: Miller 429.

Award-winning poet with major publications: *Incarnadine* (2013 National Book Award winner), *Granted* (2004 GLCA New Writers Award). Honors include Guggenheim, NEA, Rona Jaffe, and Witter Bynner fellowships. Residencies at MacDowell Colony and Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center.
