Sarah Braunstein is an Associate Professor of English (Creative Writing) and Co-Chair of the English Department at Colby College in Maine. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and an MSW from Smith College School for Social Work, blending literary and social work expertise into her practice.

Her creative work intersects with themes of empathy, identity, and parenting, often exploring the boundaries of creative writing and contemporary fiction. Her 2024 novel Bad Animals and 2012 debut The Sweet Relief of Missing Children have garnered critical acclaim, including a Maine Book Award for Fiction and recognition as a finalist for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize. Both novels were published by W. W. Norton.
