Dr. Marvin M. Chun is the Richard M. Colgate Professor of Psychology and Professor of Neuroscience at Yale University. He leads a cognitive neuroscience laboratory specializing in brain imaging and machine learning to study perception, attention, memory, and cognitive performance. A member of the Yale Cognitive Science Program, his work bridges neuroscience, psychology, and computational modeling.
His research interests include:
- Cognitive Neuroscience – Investigating neural mechanisms of perception and memory
- Brain Imaging – Utilizing fMRI and connectome-based models
- Machine Learning – Decoding cognitive states from neural data
- Attention and Working Memory – Exploring functional connectivity patterns
Recent publications focus on predictive modeling of memory, attentional dynamics, and human-machine comparisons in object representation. Scientific awards include the 2019 Samsung Ho-Am Prize in Science, the 2006 Troland Research Award, and the 2002 APA Early Career Award.
His laboratory receives funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. As an educator, he teaches Introduction to Psychology and has received the Phi Beta Kappa William DeVane Award and the Lex Hixon Prize for Teaching Excellence.
