Marvin Chun is the Richard M. Colgate Professor of Psychology and Professor of Neuroscience at Yale University, affiliated with the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on using neuroimaging techniques like fMRI to study visual attention, memory, decision-making, and perception. He leads the Cognitive/Computational Human Neuroscience (CHuN) Lab, which investigates how brain activity decodes cognitive processes and predicts behavioral outcomes. His work includes developing connectome-based predictive models to forecast individual differences in tasks like memory and attention.
Chun received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1994. His research interests span cognitive neuroscience, with a particular emphasis on neural mechanisms underlying perception, attention, and memory. He has contributed to understanding how brain activity patterns can predict task performance and individual cognitive traits. His lab's findings bridge basic neuroscience with applications in clinical and developmental contexts.
Chun's recent publications explore brain network modularity, functional connectivity markers for attention and memory, and the impact of visual stimuli (e.g., eyeglasses, dance) on perception. His work often compares human neural responses with computational models like convolutional neural networks. Despite no explicitly listed awards or grants, his contributions to neuroimaging methodologies are widely recognized in cognitive science.
