Martine BUATIER is a Professor affiliated with the Université de Franche-Comté (UFC), holding positions in the Chrono-environnement research unit (UMR 6249 CNRS/UFC) and the GEODE department. Her research focuses on geology, fluid-rock interaction, hydrothermal systems, and clay minerals, with particular emphasis on tectonic processes, sediment diagenesis, and magmatic-sedimentary interactions in basins like the Guaymas Basin and Pyrenees. She has led projects involving scientific drilling (e.g., IODP Expedition 385) and contributed to understanding carbon sequestration, metamorphic reactions, and fluid dynamics in active fault zones.
Her work integrates mineralogical analysis, isotopic dating (⁴⁰Ar/³⁹Ar), and geochemical modeling to study processes such as clay mineral formation in hydrothermal environments, syn-tectonic fluid flow, and the impact of magmatic intrusions on sedimentary basins. Notable contributions include studies on the Guaymas Basin’s thermal regime, contact metamorphism from sill intrusions, and environmental assessments of metalloid contamination from legacy mining sites.
Publications span 2001–2024, highlighting her expertise in structural geology, marine geology, and geoarchaeology. She advises students like Alban Cheviet and collaborates internationally on projects addressing Earth’s carbon cycle, tectonic-climate linkages, and subsurface fluid dynamics.
