Philippe GONCALVES is a Professor at the Université de Franche-Comté, affiliated with the research unit Chrono-Environnement (UMR 6249 CNRS/UFC) and the GEODE department. His research focuses on fluid-rock interactions, metamorphic petrology, and shear zone dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the Alps and continental crust evolution. He collaborates with industry partners including BRGM and ERAMET on mineral resource projects and leads a research initiative on carbon-free energy resources in the Jura with 45-8 Energy.
Education: PhD in Applied Geology (2002), Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand II), France, titled Petrology and Geochronology of Ultra-High Temperature Granulites from the Basic Unit of Andriamena (North-Central Madagascar).
Research Interests:
- Thermodynamic modeling of phase relationships in open systems
- Shear zone formation mechanisms and geophysical implications
- Uranium mineralization and crustal reworking
- Subduction-related fluid-rock interactions
Notable Projects:
- Fluid-driven deformation in Alpine shear zones
- Crustal hydration and uplift mechanisms (Colorado Plateau)
- Brannerite geochemistry and mineral synthesis
Advising: Supervises PhD student Manon Amiot. Collaborates on interdisciplinary projects linking geology with energy resource development.
Labs/Teams: Chrono-Environnement UMR 6249, GEODE research group.
