Martin Raspe

Martin Raspe is a Digital Humanities Scientist at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max-Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte, Rome, with a focus on art history research. His academic career spans roles as a lecturer at the University of Würzburg (1991–1996), a research fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana (1997–1998), and a scientific associate at the University of Trier (1999–2004). Since 2004, he has worked full-time in database projects, combining IT expertise with art historical research.

• Education: Studied Art History, Slavic Studies, and Classical/Christian Archaeology at the University of Münster and Freiburg im Breisgau.

Research Focus: Explores Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Italy, 15th–17th-century Netherlandish painting/printmaking, cross-cultural interactions with Italian art, the Haarlem Academy (Karel van Mander, Hendrick Goltzius), 16th-century leather tapestries, and early Christian/medieval art. His work bridges traditional art historical analysis with digital methodologies.

Key Contributions: Collaborated on the exhibition Borromini e l'universo barocco (1999–2000) and contributed to projects like the Palazzo della Sapienza study in Rome. He has served as a scientific IT supervisor since 2004.
