Martin Gannon is a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the University of Edinburgh Business School. He holds a BA in International Business, MRes in Business & Management, and PhD in Entrepreneurship from the University of Strathclyde. His academic career includes previous positions as Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Edinburgh Napier University and Teaching Associate at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of Strathclyde.
Dr. Gannon's research focuses on two primary streams:
- Entrepreneurial philanthropy, examining the dynamics, motivations, and machinations behind contemporary entrepreneurial philanthropy
- Sustainable development at the intersection of entrepreneurship and tourism/hospitality management
His work explores how family dynamics impact large-scale wealth redistribution and how entrepreneurial backgrounds shape the contemporary philanthropic landscape. His research has been published in leading international journals including Business History Review, Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.
Dr. Gannon has received several notable awards:

- Fellowship from the Higher Education Authority (2019)

As an educator, Dr. Gannon serves as Course Organiser for Planning for a Start-up and Entrepreneurship in the Mathematical Sciences. He previously taught Global Challenges for Business, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation in Context, and Leading Technology and Innovation in Organisations. His teaching spans undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive levels, with a focus on practical entrepreneurship education.
