Martin Everett is a Professor and Co-director of the Mitchell Centre for Social Network Analysis in the Department of Sociology at The University of Manchester. He holds a DPhil in mathematics and sociology from Oxford University and has held academic positions at multiple institutions before joining Manchester in 2009. His research focuses on analytical sociology, particularly social network analysis methods like centrality, positional analysis, and community detection in non-standard networks (e.g., two-mode and signed networks). He co-developed the widely used UCINET software and consults on network analysis for public and private sectors. Key awards include the Simmel Award from INSNA and membership in the Academy of Social Sciences.
Education: BSc in Mathematics (Loughborough University), MSc in Mathematics (Oxford University), DPhil in Mathematics/Sociology (Oxford University).
Research interests include: mathematical sociology, social network methodologies, network data analysis, and applications in policy and organizational contexts. He has co-founded the Mitchell Centre and contributed to over 27 publications, with recent work on gender inequalities in research funding and network configurations.
His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to innovation (SDG 9) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10). Professional activities include editorial roles, keynote talks, and workshops on social network analysis.
