Martijn Stronks is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Head of the Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law (ACMRL) since 2025. He holds degrees in law and philosophy from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Cape Town University. His research focuses on migration law, asylum, regularization policies, and the philosophical dimensions of temporalities in legal frameworks.
Education: Law and Philosophy (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Cape Town University). Editor-in-Chief of Migrantenrecht and Asiel&Migrantenrecht (2012–2016). Dissertation: 'The Role of Time in European Migration Law' (Cambridge Asylum and Migration Studies Series).
Research interests include temporal harm in migration law, asylum procedures, legal philosophy, and European migration policy. He contributes to NRC and De Groene Amsterdammer, and serves on the editorial board of the Netherlands Journal of Legal Philosophy.
Notable awards: Volzin Essay Prize (2013), DocenTalent (2018). Teaches courses like Migration Law Clinic and Fundamental Rights in Europe. Active in academic activities, including lectures and workshops on time, law, and migration.
