Younous Arbaoui is an Assistant Professor of Migration Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law (ACMRL). He leads the Global Migration Law Hub and chairs the Global Rights-Making Network. His expertise focuses on global migration governance frameworks like the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and the UN Migrant Workers Convention (ICRMW), with emphasis on EU and North African contexts.
Education: B.A. in Public Law (University of Marrakech), M.Sc. in Dutch/European Law (Amsterdam), PhD in Socio-Legal Studies (2019) on migration law's intersection with family rights.
Research interests include:
- Global migration legal instruments and their regional implementation
- Family reunification rights for refugees/migrants
- Gender dimensions in refugee/asylum law
- North African migration governance
- Clinical legal education for migration practitioners
He coordinates the Migration Law Clinic Amsterdam and chairs Morocco's Clinique Juridique Hijra, providing legal aid and training. Current projects include ACMRL's partnership with the UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW) and shadow reporting initiatives.
Teaches advanced migration law courses in Dutch, English, French, and Arabic, including clinical legal training programs.
