Martha Nolen-Vesterlund is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Shenandoah University, located in the Pruitt Health and Life Sciences Building. She additionally serves as Adjunct Faculty at Longwood University and Georgetown University. Her expertise spans Cardiac pacemakers, Internal Medicine, Congestive Heart Failure, and Primary Care across all ages.
Education: DNP (Duke University), MSN/ANP (James Madison University), RN (Centra School of Nursing), BS (Radford University).
Research focuses on optimizing heart failure care in rural settings, patient education, and interprofessional collaboration. Her work emphasizes ethical patient communication and leveraging healthcare teams' expertise.
Notable publications include studies on heart failure project implementation and patient advocacy. Awards include the 2018 Nurse Hero Award and 2015 Virginia Henderson Research Award.
She actively contributes to the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic (Board Member since 2018) and is certified in 5NP NADA auricular acupuncture for trauma and addiction support. Personal interests include international travel, brewing, and family life with her Swedish husband and two sons.
