Naiqian Zhang is a Professor in the Carl and Melinda Helwig Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Kansas State University. He has held academic positions since 1990, progressing from Assistant Professor (1990) to Professor (2001). He serves as the graduate program director for the department since 1996.

Research Focus: Zhang specializes in precision agriculture technologies, plant phenotyping, sensor systems, and control engineering. His work includes developing tractor control systems, optical sensors, and robotic phenotypers. Recent projects involve plant morphological trait sensors and interdisciplinary collaborations with DOD, NSF, and USDA.

Teaching & Advising: He teaches sensors/controls courses, emphasizing hands-on projects. Advised 15 M.S., 15 Ph.D. students, and led the K-State Robotics team to 9 consecutive ASABE championship wins (2007-2015).
International Engagement: Guest professorships at over 10 global universities, including the University of Bonn (Germany), and founder of the Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural Engineers (AOCABFE). Fulbright Scholar (2010).
