Dr. Martha Beck is a Professor of Philosophy at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Bryn Mawr College. Her research focuses on the legacy of ancient Greek civilization in the era of globalization, with expertise spanning Plato, Aristotle, Greek tragedy, environmental philosophy, and feminist thought. She has published extensively, including twelve books and over 40 articles, and maintains a YouTube channel (M. Beck Ph.D. Philosophy) with 76 videos exploring these themes.
Dr. Beck has taught abroad in Indonesia and the Czech Republic, led six student tours to Greece, and delivered keynote addresses in Greece, Indonesia, and the U.S. Her work bridges classical philosophy with contemporary global challenges, emphasizing intercultural dialogue and ethical leadership.
She has presented at international conferences such as the Olympic Center for Greek Philosophy and Culture in Greece and the Paramadina Institute in Indonesia, addressing topics like Aristotle’s concepts of dunamis and energeia, and the role of Indonesian Islam in global civilization. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates neuroscience, environmental ethics, and feminist theory into classical frameworks.
Dr. Beck’s teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning through international collaboration, and she actively promotes global citizenship through academic exchange programs and cultural immersion initiatives.
