Markus Hirte, LL.M. (born 1977), is an Honorary Professor for the History of Ancient and Modern Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Jena, since the winter semester of 2024/25. He has been the managing director of the Medieval Crime Museum in Rothenburg ob der Tauber since June 1, 2013. His academic career includes lecturing at the University of Jena's Faculty of Law since 2018 and practicing law in commercial and capital markets law from 2007–2013.

Hirte's research focuses on the history of criminal law and canon law, with a particular emphasis on witchcraft studies, criminal procedure law, and historical jurisprudence. His publications span legal history, commercial law, and interdisciplinary topics, including contributions to handbooks, exhibition catalogs, and co-editorship of the series 'Rothenburg Talks on the History of Criminal Law.'
He co-organizes annual 'Literature and Law' conferences at Nordkolleg Rendsburg and serves as an assessor for the Bavarian Society for Legal History since 2024.
