Markus Hertrich

Markus Hertrich is a Professor of International Economics at Saarland University of Applied Sciences (htw saar) since October 2023. His research focuses on

• Transmission mechanisms of monetary policy
• Information processing and price discovery in foreign exchange and options markets (with emphasis on frictions)
• Expectation formation in financial markets
• Behavioral economics in macroeconomic modeling

Educational Background

• Studied Economics at the University of Basel with specialization in Monetary Economics and Financial Markets
• PhD in Financial Market Theory and Applied Econometrics (2014) under Prof. Dr. H. Zimmermann and Prof. Dr. C. Kleiber
• Completed prestigious PhD program of the Swiss National Bank for economists

Research and Teaching
Her work bridges central banking practices with financial market dynamics, particularly analyzing how monetary policy shocks propagate through markets with frictions. His publications combine empirical analysis of FX interventions with theoretical modeling of market expectations. At htw saar, he teaches Advanced International Economics (Master), Foreign Trade and Economic Policy (Bachelor), and Macroeconomics. He supervises theses on request and has previously taught at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, University of Basel, and Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz.
