Dr. Markus Gehring is an Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law, Fellow of Hughes Hall, and former Director of the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS). His research focuses on sustainable development in European and international law, with particular expertise in EU external relations, international trade, investment, and environmental law. He holds a J.S.D. from Yale Law School and was awarded a Jean Monnet Research Chair in Sustainable Development Law.
Research Interests:
Gehring's work examines the intersection of trade agreements with environmental protections, climate governance in international investment frameworks, and legal innovations for implementing sustainability commitments. His current projects investigate constitutional dimensions of EU trade policy and climate justice mechanisms in international courts.
