Mark Tebboth is an Associate Professor in the Environment and Global Development at the School of Global Development, University of East Anglia (UEA). He is affiliated with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, Water Security Research Centre, Global Environmental Justice Group, and the Migration Research Network, where he serves on the Steering Committee. He co-convenes the MSc in Climate Change and International Development and teaches on governance, climate change, and migration.
His academic background includes a PhD from UEA on rural-urban migration in China, an MSc in Climate Change and International Development (Distinction) from UEA, and a BA in Geography with Environmental and Development Studies from the University of Sussex.
Mark’s research focuses on climate change adaptation, human mobility, resilience, vulnerability, environmental justice, and political ecology. He investigates how communities in the Greater Horn of Africa, South Asia, and Latin America respond to climate risks, with particular interest in migration as adaptation, solastalgia, and equitable recovery. His work integrates interdisciplinary methods and emphasizes local perspectives and justice-centered approaches.
His recent publications explore climate mobility, transformative justice, livelihood trajectories in drylands, and the social dimensions of invasive species. Key themes include mobility entitlements, bottom-up vulnerability assessments, and the role of culture in adaptation.

Mark leads and contributes to major research projects such as SUCCESS, CLAPs, PROSE, and Voices of Recovery, funded by FCDO, IDRC, AHRC, and others. He supervises PhD students and mentors early-career researchers. His work is embedded in global sustainability efforts and contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals.
He is an active member of research networks and collaborates internationally, with a strong presence in policy-relevant research. His leadership in the Tyndall Centre and ClimateUEA underscores his role in shaping climate-resilient development pathways for the 2020s.
