Prof Mark Sujan is the Chair in Safety Science at the University of York's Department of Computer Science, affiliated with the Centre for Assuring Autonomy. His work focuses on safety assurance of AI-driven systems, with over 25 years of experience in safety-critical industries. As a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors specialist (C.ErgHF), he contributes to national patient safety initiatives through co-authorship of Building Safer Healthcare Systems, adopted by NHS England. He chairs the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) special interest group on AI and Digital Health, and serves as a CIEHF Trustee.
Qualifications include a PhD and MSc in Computer Science, and a PGCert in Academic and Professional Practice. His research integrates human-centric approaches with advanced technologies to ensure safe AI implementation across sectors.
