Mark Oakes is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at St. Lawrence University, where he has been since 2011. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Washington (2005) and previously taught at Hamilton College as a visiting professor (2005-2011). His research focuses on self-esteem, stereotypes, prejudice, and embodied cognition, often collaborating with undergraduate students on projects like fragile self-esteem, implicit bias reduction, and relational aggression.

- Ph.D. in Psychology (Cognitive & Social Psychology), University of Washington (2005)
Teaching: He instructs courses in Social Psychology, Research Methods, and Introductory Psychology. Beyond academia, he coached men’s and women’s tennis and squash at Hamilton College (2008–2011) and received the Sidney Wertimer Prize for excellence in teaching and student support.
Research & Labs: Active in laboratory-based studies, his work intersects cognitive and social psychology, emphasizing applied questions about human behavior and bias. Collaborations with students often lead to presentations at national conferences.
