Gordon Moskowitz is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lehigh University, specializing in social cognition with a focus on unconscious influences on perception, judgment, and bias regulation. His research bridges social psychology, cognitive psychology, and health psychology, examining how implicit biases can be controlled through automatic goals and interventions.
- Education: PhD (1993) and MA (1989) from New York University, BSc (1984) from McGill University, Postdoctoral Research at Max-Planck-Institute (Munich, Germany)
Research interests span implicit bias, stereotype activation, proactive control of prejudice, spontaneous trait inference, and bias reduction interventions. His work has explored how egalitarian goals can automatize to counteract stereotyping and how medical practitioners' implicit biases affect patient care.
Recent publications address impression updating, stereotype inhibition mechanisms, and applications of social cognition to diversity initiatives. Moskowitz co-authored bias reduction workshops for healthcare professionals and investigated emotional ambivalence as a buffer against defensive reactions to bias feedback.
At Lehigh, he teaches courses in social psychology, social cognition, and stereotyping while contributing to institutional diversity efforts through committees like the Council for Equity and Community and democratic policing initiatives.
